 FAQs

  • This is the most common question I receive as a piano tuner and is the most important. A piano should generally be tuned twice a year and at least once a year at the very minimum. Unfortunately, many forget to have their pianos tuned regularly, which can lead to issues with the piano’s overall health. But it is never too late to start up a good tuning regiment and get your piano back on track!

  • Letting a piano get very far out of tune isn't good for it, but the harm is rarely irreparable. A piano adjusts to the tension of its strings (typically 38,000 lbs of pressure). When a piano is allowed to go out of tune, the string tension is reduced and the piano settles to the new lower tension. When the strings are pulled up to proper pitch again, the piano typically requires days or weeks to settle again. As it adjusts the string tension is changed slightly and the piano needs tuning again. As a result, pianos that are neglected for a year or more often require two or more tunings to reach stability, while a piano that is kept reasonably in tune holds its tuning better.

  • Usually sticking keys are a minor repair that can be easily done along with a tuning without any charge. However, there are instances where a key is sticking because of a much larger problem in the action. If that is the case, you will receive a quote for how much the repair will cost and how long it will take.

  • I take cash, checks, Venmo, Cashapp, and Paypal. If you have another from of electronic payment or app, let me know prior to the tuning and I will do my best to make that payment method accessible.
